We met the owners of this home while building their neighbors’ house directly next door. When it came time to reimagine their own — a corner property bordering a golf course along the rear and side, with views most homes never get — they asked us to serve as architect and interior designer for a full gut renovation and addition.

The site shaped the biggest architectural move: a new covered rear yard space that extends the entertaining season well beyond summer. Exposed truss beams frame an outdoor fireplace, an outdoor kitchen, and a seating area with a television and space heaters — a room without walls, oriented toward the course.

Inside, we removed walls to expand the kitchen and connect it to the family room, so cooking, gathering, and everyday life happen in one continuous space. Layout refinements on the lower level and second floor tuned the rest of the house to how the family actually lives.

From there, the work was in the details: new millwork, mouldings, and finishes throughout. Taj Mahal quartzite counters and backsplash anchor the kitchen, with a white oak island on brass-capped legs — chosen for durability and to tie into the brass hardware carried through the space. A palette of warm whites runs the length of the house, with earthy sage green in the mudroom and formal living room connecting the two.

Every decision pointed at the same goal: the clients’ forever home, designed for the years of gatherings ahead of it.
