The Wheaton House
Set on a tree-lined street in Bergen County, New Jersey, The Wheaton House reimagines a turn-of-the-century Colonial Revival residence for modern family living. The exterior was thoughtfully restored and refined with cedar shingles, white windows, and a gracious wraparound porch — preserving its historic character while introducing architectural clarity and proportion.
Inside, the plan was carefully restructured to create stronger connections between rooms while maintaining moments of intimacy. A paneled entry hall opens to luminous formal spaces, balanced by the warmth of an oak-paneled family room anchored by a brick fireplace and custom built-ins. The kitchen and dining areas serve as the heart of the home, defined by white oak beams, bespoke millwork, and layered materials that elevate everyday function. Upstairs, the primary suite was expanded within the original roofline, while secondary bedrooms and baths were tailored with rich textures and refined detailing.
Outdoors, stone terraces, a fireplace, and a summer kitchen extend the architecture into the landscape, creating a seamless dialogue between interior and exterior living.
The result is a Colonial Revival home renewed — respectful of its origins yet fully attuned to contemporary life.
